President Nixon’s Poetic Love Letters to Wife, Pat, Go on Display

President Nixon’s Poetic Love Letters to Wife, Pat, Go on Display | NewsFeed | TIME.com.

Some particularly sentimental and romantic love letters the former President sent to his beloved future wife have painted a very different portrait of Richard Nixon.

Dozens of love notes were exchanged between Nixon and Patricia Ryan, dating from 1938 to June 1940, right before the two wed. Six of the letters will be on display at the Richard Nixon Presidential Library and Museum starting Friday, as part of an exhibit celebrating Pat’s 100th birthday.

Apparently Nixon was quite the poet, using “thee” instead of “you” in a few of his letters. ABC News notes this is a nod to his Quaker upbringing, as the pronoun “thee” is a sign of special closeness in Quaker tradition. He also refers to Ryan as his “dearest heart.”

In one letter, he wrote: “Let’s go for a long ride Sunday; let’s go to the mountains weekends; let’s read books in front of fires; most of all, let’s really grow together and find the happiness we know is ours.”

Since much of the public’s memory of Nixon is entwined with scandal, this particular discovery serves as a reminder that the troubled president had a softer side—one that was deeply devoted to and enamored with his wife.

“These letters are fabulous. It’s a totally different person from the Watergate tapes that people know,” Olivia Anastasiadis, supervisory museum curator, told ABC. “He loved her, he was absolutely enthralled by her and that’s all he thought about.”

The two met at an audition for a community theater production in Southern California, and Nixon proposed two years later, delivering her engagement ring in a basket filled with mayflowers. They were married for 53 years, Pat passing away one day after their anniversary in 1993.

Pat wasn’t as flowery with her sentiments in letters to him, but spunky instead: “In case I don’t see you before why don’t you come early Wednesday (6)—and I’ll see if I can burn a hamburger for you.” Grilling up some burgers is its own kind of poetry, though.

Tide detergent emerges as a new target for thieves

Tide detergent emerges as a new target for thieves | NJ.com.

A man in Minnesota is accused of attempting a clean sweep of $25,000 worth of Tide detergent over the span of 15 months, according to a report on 7online.com.

Investigators say Paul Costanzo, 52, is part of a growing trend across the country – that has left authorities with the dirty and daunting task of tracking the detergent.

Priced anywhere from $10 to $20, the Tide detergent bottles are unique in that they have no serial numbers, making them virtually impossible to track.

On the black market, authorities say the detergent is resold. Investigators in Maryland have found it is being traded for drugs.

The spike in theft of Tide has sparked CVS stores to take precautions. A spokesman for the store said in some of its chains, they have attached security devices to Tide bottles to alert staff of potential thefts.

I can understand why, the stuff is EXPENSIVE!

My house…

My SECOND LIFE (hereafter to be referred to as “SL) house, that is.  Is not very big.  If you are a “paying” game player, SL provides you with a house, for free.  You do have to pay “rent” in the game if you want to live somewhere.  The types of housing in Second Life is comparable to the types of housing in real life.  (Hereafter to be called, “rl”.)  I just wanted to share pictures with you of my house in SL.  It is small and you will see it reflects my interest in medieval and fantasy structures. Oh yes, in SL a house can be very, very, fanciful, you would not believe what is available out there in the property arena!  Quite wonderful actually.  So, without further ado, my house.  :)

Inside my SL House!

Inside my SL House!

As you can see, it is one big room.  You can’t see my fireplace that is behind me over my left shoulder.  It is roomy enough for little ole’ me.  Not there much, but it is a place to call home. :)

And here is the outside of my SL home.  As you can see, it isn’t very big.  But I like it.  I love the fancifulness (is that a word) of the house.  An elves home, or a fairy.  Oh yes, I have clothes so I can be a fairy too.  Even wings.  Sometime I will have to “dress up” so you can see me in all my finery. :)   Breathtaking to behold.  Right now, I am just in grungees.

Hope you like, just something fun to post about.
