Rapex Condom

Rapex Condom

Call it provocative, call it medieval, whatever you call it aside from self-defense classes, self-imposed curfews and bodyguards it has to be one of the most progressive devices created to help prevent the rape of women. Invented by South African doctor Dr. Sonnet Ehlers after treating a rape victim who said, “If only I had teeth down there,” the female condom dubbed “Rapex” is being readied for distribution after 20 years of research.

“According to Dr. Ehlers “As soon as the man puts his penis in the woman’s vagina the condom catches it. The “teeth” of the condom then penetrates his skin and causes severe pain. The man will have to go to a hospital to have the condom removed,” she said. It will also collect the rapist’s DNA.”

30,000 of these condoms are being distributed in South African in various cities where the World Cup games are being played. South Africa has one of highest incidences of rape in the world.

While some think it increases a woman’s feeling of vulnerability, one could argue that women walk in the world and shape their lives around knowing their vulnerabilities. Others argue that the device is medieval, “Yes, my device may be a medieval,” Dr. Ehlers says, “but it’s for a medieval deed that has been around for decades,” she said. “I believe something’s got to be done … and this will make some men rethink before they assault a woman.”

While I don’t believe one thing will prevent rape, I do believe in having an arsenal from which to choose. What do you think?

Someone hand me my mace, my brass knuckles and my Rapex condom. It’s eleven at night and we need a loaf of bread!

It boggles the mind!

Get a load of this ancestor’s family.  My 4th Great Grand Uncle, John Scalf, and his wife, Edeah Carlisle Scalf, had SIXTEEN children.  Their children‘s number of children below:

Nancy = 5 children

Polly = 11 children

John = 14 children

Brittan = 19 children (Count ‘em, NINETEEN!!)

Dicey = 17 children

Lydia =5 children

Berry =8 children

Lee = 7 children

Ira = 7 children

Jesse = 8 children

Peter = 4 children

Betsy = 1 child

Robert = 6 children

Lela = 4 children

Two of John and Edea Scalf’s children died in infancy and had no children.  As far as I can tell.

Edea had their first child in 1788 at the age of 18, their last child in 1823 at the age of 53.

I.

Cannot.

Imagine.

I am 53 NOW!

I’d kill.

No wonder all the women look old for their age in old pictures.  :(   Their grandchildren, assuming all lived, which is probably not likely, would have numbered 116 grandchildren!

I’m thinking of cooking Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter dinner for 132 people at one sitting.  DAYS AND DAYS of cooking.

I am so glad I have an electric stove, crockpot, electricity, gas!  I can’t imagine doing all that cooking without electricity, etc…..I’d give up before I started.

I have some aunts and uncles who married more than once, would have 10 children each marriage, but none of them, that I have seen records on, had that many grandchildren.  WOW.

WOW!

Shoot, I can’t even imagine cooking for 14 kids!  Goodness.

I am in AWE!

This weekend

I might not have to work!   YAYAYAYAY  Like the money, of course, but I am ready, after a month, to have my weekend all to myself. :)   The first year I was here I worked for four months with one day off the whole time.  Loved the money then, but if I remember correctly, I was sick for about three days afterwards. :)   Exhausted more like it.

I have two new roommates.  A young man and his son.   They were living in an apartment but his roommates there, a young couple, kept getting in to arguments and would throw stuff at each other and kick each other out of the apartment.  Scared the little boy, who is about 7 years old.  So, my house is paid off, don’t really need rent money.  He will split the town bill with me, which includes water, electricity and such.  Annnnddddd….paint the outside of my house.  Which needs it badly.  My town bill is about 80 bucks a month, so split between us only about 40.00 per month.   It will also allow the young man to save up for a place where just he and his son can live.  The young man works where I work, great worker!!  My boss’ love his work.  (He is the maintenance man)  The little boy loves being at my house, they have only been there three days.  There is a park across the street, he plays with my dog,  and they brought their cat.

The only SPOT, or SHADOW, hanging over this beautiful party of people working together to help each other, is, you guessed it, SHADOW.  He is not use to them being in the house and I hope he recovers his senses soon.  He even sits at their bedrooms doors and growls when they are gone during the day.   Like he is warning them, “Step ONE FOOT outside that door and your ankles are MINE”.  He barks when they come in the evening.  Normally I can sleep through anything, or so I thought.  Who knew that such little dogs could have such loud and shrill barks.  I’m getting rather irritated with him.  Nothing like waking about 6pm to him barking and he can’t get over himself, it goes on forever until I drag him in my room and shut the door.  Out of sight, out of mind.  Well, unless they make noise. :)   The poor guy keeps apologizing.  Not his fault, hopefully it will just take a bit of time for Shadow to get use to them being there since we have always been alone in the house.  Personally, I think it is good for him to be use to some other people besides just myself.

My sister is back from San Diego, did not make it back to the beach to bring me any sand. ;(  That is ok, on September 28th I am headed down there myself.  My aunt and uncle will be celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary and want both my brother, who already lives down there, and myself to be present.  I guess we are the only two left alive, aside from the bride and groom, of course, in the family who were present at their wedding in Yuma, Arizona.  (Also where my mother and father got married a few years earlier).  I don’t remember the event at all, I was almost 4 years old.  I was surprised to learn I was there, don’t remember my mother mentioning that at all.  Guess I was tho. :)   So, I already told my boss I AM GOING!  I will get to see my grandma.  She is 94.  On oxygen because she has very bad asthma, but other than that, she is not on one single medication.  Doing better than me.  HER mom lived to 95.  :)

It is still cool here, 51 degrees outside tonight, wind is blowing and it is COLD out!  Last night the wind was blowing so hard it kinda scared me.  Every once in a while it does that up here, gets scary I mean.  The wind blows up here all the time.

Well, will write more.  I see I have comments to answer.  I have to get breakfast ready for the guests.  Hope you have all been having great weekends and life is good. :)
