I got such a kick out of him yesterday. It was nice enough outside that I could open my front door for a while, let some fresh air in the house. There were some little kids playing outside, next door. Shadow could hear them. The whole time the kids were outside playing he stood by the front door barking. Growling. He was FEROCIOUS! Letting them know, with his little bark, that he was on duty. He was beside himself. Barking, running to the screen door, growling. Then he would listen for a few minutes and start all over again.
I finally figured out that he is barking at the washer/dryer, not because there is something there, because they make noise. He also growls and barks at these two machines. I guess he never noticed them before or hadn’t found his voice yet.
Between the kids next door and the washer and dryer he tuckered out his voice. Or maybe I just finished washing and drying in the nick of time. LOL

Shadow: Day 15 – Project 365
Went for a walk, only for a few minutes, very cold outside. Shadow was sniffing every thing his nose could possibly smell.
We just went across the street to the park. I took him out because he could hear a dove and every time he heard the dove coo he would stop whatever he was doing, ears perk up, sitting and listening. There was another bird too, one I could not identify and I don’t think I had ever heard it before. Anyway, after sitting and listening, his ears straining to hear he would be bouncing around the living room again. Decided to take him out and look at the bigger “world” for a bit longer than just the hopes he will do his business outside.
Remember the cartoons with the dogs just bounding around up and down in the air. Shadow reminded me of those cartoons while we were outside. He was all over the place, well, as long as he was near me. He didn’t stray much.
Day 8: Project 365 2012
Shadow scared me today! :/ I went out in back because I decided a fire in the wood-burning stove would be nice today. I went out back, threw some wood up on the stoop, it isn’t a “proper” porch, therefore relegated to “stoop” status. When I get enough, I go to the stoop and throw it in the back door.
When I finished I closed the door, dragged the wood to the stove and realized the puppy wasn’t following me around.
I LOOKED HIGH AND LOW! He is tiny! Looked under, around, behind. Everywhere. Went outside again, three times, in the front door and out the back and walking all the way around my house. Thinking, there is NO WAY he slid by me. I was FACING the door from outside while throwing the wood in the house. He did not go by me.
Still, I walked all around. First time I went out I looked at the neighbor’s dog, who is a HUGE, BIG, LAB that they never take off the chain. I am afraid of this dog. In the three years they have lived next door, the dog is left behind even when they go camping, he was a cute puppy when they got him. (Why’d they get a dog? I have actually called the cops because they have disappeared for days leaving the poor dog on the chain and I am so afraid of him I can’t get close enough to check the big bucket they leave out for him.) Anyway, I looked over at him in fear with ACCUSING eyes. “Did you eat my puppy?” I figured he couldn’t have done the deed QUITE that fast, but I wanted to know. He just barked at me with indignation.
Shadow, finally appeared, I know not from whence he came, but he was in the house the whole time! I have all the doors closed to the bathroom and the bedrooms to prevent him from having an accident that I could miss seeing. So I knew he wasn’t in those rooms. NO idea where he hid his little butt.
I was very relieved that the big meany next door didn’t gobble him up.
