About Hilary | The Nomad Grad.

As much as I try to fight it, my life is anything but normal.

Having a mother that used to be a model for renowned designers such as Bob Mackie gives you quite the name (and gams) to live up to. Since my father is an accomplished producer/director for television and film, I spent my free time after school on sets and stages, talking to celebrities and crew members. I did my third grade science project on the lion cubs at the MGM Hotel, posed for Italian fashion magazines in high school, and worked as a personal assistant for some of the biggest A-Listers in the world all while living in the entertainment capital of the world.

And after all that? I decided I want to try the traditional schooling route, get a real job, and the academic degrees to prove that I am worth more than a pretty picture.

Little did I know after four years in college, graduating summa cum laude and being named Outstanding Graduate of UNLV, I would be left without a job, 14 rejection letters from PhD programs, and not a clue where to go from here.

My name is Hilary Billings and this is my story of life after college, as I wrestle with finding my place between the cameras and the textbooks. Searching for my purpose in every country I can afford to travel to, I look to answer the big question: What do you do with a BA in Psychology?
