Secret Santas Paying For Other’s Layaway Bills Bring Back The Spirit Of The Holiday Season « The Ranting Liberal

Secret Santas Paying For Other’s Layaway Bills Bring Back The Spirit Of The Holiday Season « The Ranting Liberal.

Every once in a while, you read a story that makes you feel a little bit better about humanity.  On this site, I usually discuss politics and other “real world issues” but I’m taking a break from that today because this is a story that deserves mentioning. An unidentified woman in Plainfield Township, Michigan decided to spread a little Christmas cheer by picking up the tabon the layaway balances of three random strangers (totaling about $500 in all) at the local K-Mart.  Her only requirement was that there toys in the orders.

It’s these kind of acts that I think don’t get enough attention.  We spend so much time watching the news and hearing and reading about all of the things that are going wrong in the world it’s important that we give props to those people who do random acts of kindness without any desire for recognition.

It turns out that the woman’s charity not only went unnoticed, it inspired others.

Shortly after the original Secret Santa picked up her layaway bills, another individual visited the Plainfield K-Mart and paid the tab on another 14 layaway orders.  The total cost - about $2,000.  The Michigan store now says that it has had layaway donations averaging about $150 to $300 a day since news broke of the Secret Santa’s good deeds.  The store is even fielding calls from other retail stores asking how to they’ve handled the payoff requests because they’re starting to see charitable requests as well.

And down in Reading, Pennsylvania comes the story of a Secret Santa who hands out $100 bills at random to people in stores, restaurants or on the street.  He provides no name.  He wants no recognition.  He just has a simple desire to take the blessings he has in his life and share them with others.

It’s nice to read the news for once and find a story about people helping out other people.  Try to watch the video and not be moved and inspired.
